Hotel Royal in Date City is well-established, with a history dating back 50 years. It has been loved by locals as a hotel for travelers, a meeting place, and a wedding banquet hall. Born in Shinhidaka Town, Kawahara loves nature and mountain hiking. She became the owner of the hotel when she got married. During the 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake blackout, which left the entire region without electricity, she lit wedding candles to keep her hotel open and cooked hot meals for victims. This disaster experience made her decide to become a Volcano Meister for her beloved community.
