HOTEL ROYAL

A small hotel’s dishes lovingly prepared with local ingredients

Michiyo Kawahara,
General Manager, Hotel Royal

The nature-loving owner of the hotel who’s a concierge with a big smile

Hotel Royal in Date City is well-established, with a history dating back 50 years. It has been loved by locals as a hotel for travelers, a meeting place, and a wedding banquet hall. At the time of the eruption of Mt. Usu in 2000, the hotel acted as a hub for media personnel reporting on the eruption. The hotel’s general manager, Michiyo Kawahara, who always welcome guests with a big smile, is a concierge for the town.

Drawing on her disaster experience to become a Volcano Meister for her beloved town

Born in Shinhidaka Town, Kawahara loves nature and mountain hiking. She became the owner of the hotel when she got married. During the 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake blackout, which left the entire region without electricity, she lit wedding candles to keep her hotel open and cooked hot meals for victims. This disaster experience made her decide to become a Volcano Meister for her beloved community.

The hotel caters to your epicurean desires! Ideally located for bird watching

Hotel Royal is committed to local production for local consumption. For guests looking for a special dining experience, the hotel provides an original menu for an extra charge that is added to the room rate. For walking, her top recommendation is the White-tailed Eagle and Osaru River Route, where you may be lucky enough to sight wild birds flying in from elsewhere. A short walk from the hotel will take you to a place of natural splendor.
