If you are visiting the Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark, Michi-no-Eki (roadside station) Toyoura is a stop you should not miss. Driving from Toyako Town toward Hakodate along National Route 37, you\u2019ll soon find it on your left. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This local store is packed with Toyoura\u2019s seasonal specialties\u2015scallops, pork, and strawberries. Highlights include a soft-serve ice cream made with 100% Toyoura strawberry jam and \u2018Hotate Furai-kyu <\/em>(meaning flyweight class)\u2019 deep-fried scallop skewers named in honour of a world boxing champion from Toyoura.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Sogawa Noriko, acting manager of the Toyoura Industry Promotion Corporation, is a Toyoura native and former girls\u2019 baseball pitcher. She began playing in Year 4 of elementary school and led her Sapporo club team to a third-place finish at a national tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She now brings that same team spirit to her work, curating local delights such as: Umami Mugibuta<\/em> premium pork raised on specially blended feed, fresh coastal scallops, and authentic wasabi.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The shop\u2019s two signature dishes are the strawberry soft serve and Hotate Furai-kyu<\/em> boiled scallops skewered and deep-fried. The soft serve, blended with 100% Toyoura-made jam, strikes a perfect balance between sweetness and tartness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, the scenery is just as delightful. From the rolling pastures of Takaoka area to the shimmering waters of Funka Bay, known for scallop farming, Toyoura offers views that soothe the soul.<\/p>\n<\/div>
